Skittles is a precocious Dobergirl with a mischievous grin. She was born in 2013 and is quite compact at about 47 pounds. What she lacks in height, she makes up for in energy. She also seems to have a knack for balancing on walls and jumping from column to column in the backyard, so she may be an excellent candidate for agility training. She is a quick learner, and is currently attending a home manners class where she is doing very well.
Skittles has a blood clotting disorder called Von Willebrand disease, which means that her blood doesn't clot well. Play areas will need to be assessed for sharp objects and special care may be necessary if she receives an injury or needs surgery. This sweet, affectionate tornado would do best as an only pet in a home with an experienced and active owner. If you're looking for an energetic cuddle bug, you may have found her! Skittles is being fostered in Raleigh, NC.

Precious is just a big hunka love in a little blue body! She was born in early 2007 and, despite her difficult beginnings, life is a happy, never-ending source of adventure for her. Poor Precious had been a puppy factory with her last litter being born in January 2010. Her blue coat may never be totally full again but that doesn't bother her one bit. She adores adults and gets along great with a large submissive male dog in her foster home (she can be bossy but loves to run and play). She would do well as an only dog also. Precious was placed during the summer of 2011 but was sadly returned to us because she did not appreciate the finer points of young, active children. Therefore, she will only be placed in a home with kids if they are bit older (13+ years). Precious is a real joy and will be a loving and wonderful companion. Don't miss out on this jewel! Precious is being fostered in Fuquay Varina, NC.
Heidi is an adorable female born in the winter of 2009. Since Heidi loves to play and is energetic, she would be a good match for a home that has a playful male dog. No cats, please, she's just too rambunctious for that. Heidi understand basic obedience commands and loves to learn new commands and tricks. At some point in Heidi's past, she sustained a fracture in her upper left rear leg that went untreated. It causes her to sit with her leg straight out but regular exercise such as walking, running and swimming are fine. Heidi also has an issue with recurring pneumonia which may require intermittent courses of antibiotics. If you're looking for a happy, active girl, Heidi maybe the girl for you. Heidi is being fostered in Raleigh, NC.

Maya was born in 2007 and came to DRNC in 2008 after being pulled from terrible conditions in a breeding operation. Maya can be shy with new people and new places, but does get comfortable with relative ease. Once her shyness wears off, she's a great Dobergirl: silly, loving, and respectful. Being a blue girl, she has the typical thin coat - but that means there's not much shedding going on! If you want to be inspired by a true survivor, then Maya is the girl for you. She'd like to get to know you! Maya is being fostered in Durham, NC.
Note: Maya can jump a 4-foot fence so a 6-foot fence is required.
T-Bone is a sweetheart who was born during the summer of 2008. He was turned in to rescue because his family had a toddler and then discovered another baby was on the way. Due to the increase in family size his owners found that they no longer had enough time to spend with T-Bone. T-Bone does well with the female Dobermans in his foster home but can be a little reactive with other dogs when he's on leash. He has had some obedience training in the past but a refresher course would be good, both for him and his new owner. T-Bone lived with a cat early in his life so he might do okay with a dog-savvy cat (i.e. one that does not run from him or act fearful). This is a really nice, affectionate boy. T-Bone is being fostered in Westfield, NC.
Pax is a loving, goofy boy who was born in the summer of 2010. He was signed over to the animal shelter by his owner as a result of a cruelty case (starvation). Poor Pax was so incredibly thin when we took him from the shelter. His skin and coat were in terrible condition and he had loads of parasites. Despite his horrible beginnings, Pax thinks the world is such a happy place to be! He adores people and is very affectionate. He also does very well with the friendly female Dobermans in his foster home and loves to play. Pax is a lovely blue color, has filled out beautifully, and his coat and skin are in better condition now. He was tested with a dog-savvy cat and did well. This is a wonderful boy who deserves a loving forever home. Pax is being fostered in Westfield, NC.
Note: Pax can jump a 4-foot fence so a 6-foot fence is required.
This handsome red boy was born in approximately late winter 2012. Found as a stray, we don’t know his history but based on his condition, he didn’t have a good start in life. But now? He has gained weight and learned that being an indoor dog is the life for him. Diesel is a supreme snuggler, he loves being close to his family, and is proving to be very loyal to his foster family. He does need more socialization, especially with men of whom he’s fearful but not reactive. He’s more likely to cower from strange men. Like I said, not a good start in life.
Although soft-hearted and a lover, Diesel is also stubborn so he must go to a home with working dog experience, one where a human is the pack leader and Diesel is taken to obedience classes. As a stray dog, Diesel became very adept at escaping crates and fences. The crate in his foster home was secured with zip ties and he’s learned he can’t get out of it. He is Houdini reincarnated and as such, he must be monitored at all times while in the yard (at least until he proves that he won’t climb over the fence) and/or have an athletic/active owner who is dedicated to daily walks/runs/hikes as his exercise.
Diesel is crate trained, house trained, neutered, microchipped, current on vaccinations and heartworm prevention. He has been a great playmate with his Doberman foster sister and he is great around our dog-savvy cat. Are you looking for a loving, sweet, silly boy to share your life? Do you want to be the hero in this deserving dog’s life, giving him training and structure and a safe, loving home where he can live the life he should have had from day one? Diesel may be the dog for you. He is being fostered in Durham, NC.
