Meet River!

(renamed "Duke")

Ever since we bought our first Doberman from a breeder, we knew our future one would be a rescue.  As first time Dobie owners, we made sure through proper training that our dog would be a good one.  She was great but it came time to get her a companion.  As a family with an infant, it was important to find the right match for our current Doberman in more ways than one.

We began our search through the Doberman Rescue of North Carolina, Inc. website.  It was recommended to us by one of our Doberman trainers.  Now our first few times on the site did not produce a match, but we did not give up.  One day by chance we came across RIVER -a three year old male given up due to a military transfer.  He was from a family of seven (five children).  So far so good!

Our email to Doberman Rescue of North Carolina, Inc. was answered much quicker than we had expected, and an appointment was made to bring our Doberman to meet River.  We met River at the home of Ellen Berry - his foster mother.  The reception was warm and heartfelt.  The dogs played in the backyard for an hour and showed compatibility.  So far so good!

Now came the time for Doberman Rescue to check our background and for us to seriously consider adding another Doberman to our family.

After much thought and consideration the decision was made and we picked up River.  Ellen was so helpful when answering all our questions.  We realized how special River and all her foster dogs were to her.  In addition, it became so clear River came from a loving and caring family.  It meant so much to us to know River's original family would receive a good update on him with his new loving family.

River was renamed Duke and arrived into our home as if he had been there for all three years of his life.  We have not had one problem with him.  Actually he has several characteristics we wish our first Doberman had. Best of all Duke, loves our infant son.  We feel so very comfortable with him in our home and with our son.  We will celebrate our first Christmas together (2008) this month.  Life is good!
