Meet Tia!

Tia – what a strange and wonderful girl!  Tia came into rescue in 2003 at approximately 2 or 3 years of age.  If only she could talk, she might have been able to tell her foster mom what horrible abuse and neglect she endured.  ‘Timid’ is an big understatement for poor Tia.  She was, and still is (with all but her ‘mom’) shy and frightened.  It took years, that’s right – years, to get Tia to the place where she would not zone-out when being handled.  There was absolutely no harm or aggression in her – she was quite simply scared beyond her ability to cope.

No one was interested in adopting little Tia but she did grow to love her foster mom (me!).  As if life hadn’t handed Tia enough sadness, she was diagnosed with cancer in the fall of 2007 and was not expected to live very long.  I adopted her on the day her cancer diagnosis was given.  As of this writing (March 18, 2008), Tia is still going strong – defying the hand that life has dealt her.  She sleeps with me every night and is still feeling strong and healthy.  We take one day at a time and enjoy it to the fullest.  Tia has taught me more about patience and the power of love that any other dog I have ever fostered.  She is dearly loved!
